scientifically known as Strelitzia reginae, is a striking plant native to South Africa. It is renowned for its vibrant orange and blue flowers that resemble a bird in flight*
This plant is often associated with tropical environments, although it can thrive in various climates.

Characteristics
Appearance

                             बड़ा गरुड़ यह Stork परिवार Ciconiidae का सदस्य है, जो पहले एशिया के अलावा पूरे अफ्रीका और पूर्वी बोर्नियो तक पाया जाता था पर अब यह सिर्फ भारत के 2 क्षेत्रों भागलपुर एवं असम में और कम्बोडिया में ही बचा है। इस समय पूरे विश्व में इसकी आबादी मात्र 1200-1400 तक ही बची है जिसमें अब भागलपुर में 400-450 का अनुमान है।यहां पिछले साल 148 घोसले चिन्हित किये गये थे।  मुझे 1दिन में भागलपुर जिले के नवगछिया  प्रखंड अंतर्गत कदवा दियारा ( कोसी क्षेत्र) के विभिन्न कस्बों में 100 से ज्यादा घोसला दिखाई दिए हैं जिनमें गरुड़ बैठे हुए दिखाई दिये और आसमान में उड़ते हुए भी। ये अपने घोंसले मानव बस्तियों के बीच ही बनाते हैं।  कदवा गांव के लोग इसे भगवान विष्णु का वाहन मानते हुए इनका संरक्षण समर्पित भाव से करते हैं यही मुख्य कारण है कि यहां इनकी जनसंख्या बढ़ रही है।
