This is a species of bird in the family Nectariniidae.
It is similar in size to a sparrow.It is olive yellow in color, with multiple darker streaks. It has a long, curved black beak and yellow legs. Below, it is pale yellow streaked with black. Its beak is specially adapted for a nectar diet.

The call is a repeated low soft, musical oo-uk ...ooo-uk... which may be heard at dusk and dawn.

                             बड़ा गरुड़ यह Stork परिवार Ciconiidae का सदस्य है, जो पहले एशिया के अलावा पूरे अफ्रीका और पूर्वी बोर्नियो तक पाया जाता था पर अब यह सिर्फ भारत के 2 क्षेत्रों भागलपुर एवं असम में और कम्बोडिया में ही बचा है। इस समय पूरे विश्व में इसकी आबादी मात्र 1200-1400 तक ही बची है जिसमें अब भागलपुर में 400-450 का अनुमान है।यहां पिछले साल 148 घोसले चिन्हित किये गये थे।  मुझे 1दिन में भागलपुर जिले के नवगछिया  प्रखंड अंतर्गत कदवा दियारा ( कोसी क्षेत्र) के विभिन्न कस्बों में 100 से ज्यादा घोसला दिखाई दिए हैं जिनमें गरुड़ बैठे हुए दिखाई दिये और आसमान में उड़ते हुए भी। ये अपने घोंसले मानव बस्तियों के बीच ही बनाते हैं।  कदवा गांव के लोग इसे भगवान विष्णु का वाहन मानते हुए इनका संरक्षण समर्पित भाव से करते हैं यही मुख्य कारण है कि यहां इनकी जनसंख्या बढ़ रही है।
